Dear Consultee
The Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places
The Representation of the People Act 1983 as amended by the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 introduced a change to the timing of compulsory reviews of UK Parliamentary polling districts and polling places. The next compulsory review must be completed by 31 January 2025.
Therefore, I am commencing a review and inviting representations and comments from interested persons. The formal consultation period will begin on Wednesday 23 October 2024. The Returning Officer’s representations on the current arrangements for voting will be published as part of this Consultation exercise.
Any elector in the Wrexham or Clwyd South Constituencies may make observations on the Returning Officer’s representations or comment on their current polling facilities. Local political parties, Members of Parliament, Assembly Members, Councillors and community councils are all being consulted as part of this review.
I am also interested in hearing from persons or groups with expertise in relation to access to premises or facilities for persons who have different forms of disability. The Council’s Equalities Lead will also be consulted.
Generally, polling places/stations are reviewed before and after each election, but I am aware that some Polling Places are less satisfactory than others. In addition, some polling places are currently outside of their polling district because there is a lack of suitable premises within the polling district.
It would be helpful if, during this review where concerns are expressed about a particular Polling District, Place or Station, suggestions are also made for an alternative venue. Over the next few months the Electoral Services staff will be viewing any proposed alternative Polling Station venues.
For information, I attach a background information document, which includes a schedule of Polling Districts, Polling Stations and current electorates.
Please be aware that under regulations that govern the review of polling districts and polling places, all submissions and related correspondence will be published on completion of the review.
Please direct all representations to:- Alison Davies, Electoral and Registration Services Lead, The Guildhall, Wrexham LL11 1AY or by e mail to: electoral@wrexham.gov.uk no later than Wednesday, 13 November 2024.
I have enclosed a copy of the Polling Districts and Polling Places Questionnaire which may assist you in completing a submission.
Yours sincerely
Electoral Registration Officer
